Biografia

Sara Kirschen, nata a Roma nel `75, ha conseguito gli studi classici e la laurea in sociologia. Fin dagli anni `90 si è avvicinata all´arte della ceramica prima come autodidatta, poi professionista ed insegnante della materia.

La sua produzione artistica in un primo momento ha privilegiato l´uso di ingobbi, argille colorate dalle calde tinte terrose per incidere e scolpire la superficie degli oggetti ed intervenire sulla texture del manufatto.

Successivamente si è avvicinata alle tecniche di riduzione quali il raku, il naked raku, il pit-fire, cotture con segatura, ecc. sperimentando effetti di affumicazioni e lustri metallici.

Attualmente si sta specializzando nell´impiego di impasti ceramici più complessi come il grès e la porcellana e nello studio delle singole materie prime usate per la composizione degli smalti. Gli oggetti vengono realizzati al tornio elettrico, a lastre e a colaggio; le forme sono semplici, spesso lineari, ma attentamente studiate per raggiungere un risultato di perfetta armonia.

Biography

Sara K. Was born in Roma in 1975. After taking a degree in sociology, in the early nineties she discovered that her real interest laid in the art of pottery- making. Self taught, she is now a professional potter and teacher.

At first her production was characterized by the use of colored slips and traditional techniques. Then her interested shifted to reduction firings, mastering different techniques such as raku, naked raku, pit and saggar firings etc..and working with the effects of smoke and metallic fumes.

She is currently using more complex clay bodies such as stoneware and porcelain and studying the different raw materials for glaze composition. Her pieces are made on the wheel as well as slab built or slip-casted. Her designs are simple, often minimal, but carefully orchestrated to achieve perfect results.
